Heatwave Vol. 1 - Gios4ma

Jackson, MS rapper-producer Gios4ma unearths his vault, releasing Heatwave Vol. 1 to digital streaming platforms for its fifth anniversary.

Written by: Trey Fox

Jackson, MS rapper-producer Gios4ma unearths his vault, releasing Heatwave Vol. 1 to digital streaming platforms for its fifth anniversary. It previously existed on services such as Bandcamp, SoundCloud, and Youtube. While the project might be five years old, the subject matter, as well as the inventive production, rings true to the present day.

In under 25 minutes, Gio forges new and exciting sonic pathways. The EP is a perfect mix of instrumental tracks and more traditional songs with rap verses features. The instrumentals have a hypnotic quality to them, reeling you in repeatedly. The third track, “Kazca,” is perhaps the best example of this. With a layer of otherworldly synths, hints of static, and an incredible drum pattern that sounds tribal, it feels like you’ve been placed in between the past and the future.

The EP flows naturally, and Gio makes efficient use of its duration. The project is consistent throughout, and Gio’s heatwave metaphor unravels as it progresses. Contributing to the “heatwave” are issues such as social and political tensions as well as an epidemic of crime and violence. Songs such as “Saudade samba,” “Battleground,” and “Jungle Book'' effectively address these themes. Chicago rapper King $ly and LA rapper Ghostie 8k’s verses on “Saudade samba” reflect the post-2016 election. $ly and Ghostie 8k address issues such as propaganda, racism, and perseverance through difficult times.

The project remains consistent throughout. Hux paints a vivid picture on “Battleground,” one that depicts scenarios that require one to do what is necessary for survival. On “Jungle Book,” AERO SANDHILL mourns the loss of childhood innocence and former friendships. He also feels trapped in his existence, describing his life as one constant loop.

The record closes with “good.game.everyone,” an instrumental that feels both spacey and aquatic. Gio accomplished a lot with this EP, and it’s one that fans might come to appreciate more as they unpack it with repeat listens.

UK R&B artist Cyan recently dropped her latest single “Costing.” This song is refreshing and nostalgic at the same time. Cyan’s tonality paints a vivid silhouette against her heartfelt writing; it feels personal and therapeutic for her to get it on paper. The harmonies are alluring and gracefully lead listeners to a place of appreciation. The production plays a great part in the arrangement. The soundscapes blend modern and 2000’s R&B with Reggae, as if it’s an experiment that never fails. It legit feels like Timberland’s and Pharrell’s doppelgängers had something to prove and wanted to provide a twist. The sticky snares, the four-count into the song, and airy chords provide the perfect canvas for Cyan to fully present her talent with no interruptions. Earlier this year, Cyan released “DWYW.” Definitely excited for what she has in store for the year.

Written by : Adrian Richards

Charlotte based rapper JUNE! (fka Shawn May) released his latest piece “SON” under the moniker of “the hermit, SUN!”. The 9 track LP feels like a metamorphosis for the emerging MC. The lighthearted tone of the production clashes well with the darker gruff tonality of SUN’s voice. Throughout his latest project, SUN! sounds more recharged and his words are as clear as ever. A definite shift from his usual works as “JUNE!”, as he taps into his Viktor Vaughn inspired persona.

Compared to his previous works, this project takes a more personal approach. . On “1010” produced by Kingayeo, SUN dives into his current and past life dealings. “I feel like Steez…I ponder many times sending that last tweet”, expressing the similar feelings of disparity shared with late the Brooklyn rapper Capital Steez of Pro Era. Expressing regret in the self-featured “lost way”, reminiscing in “SON” & “change”. Fellow IND members Jay Cinema and Roman. shine on their contributions, displaying the smooth cohesiveness with SUN’s vision.

“SON BEEN THE ONE!” screams Fayde, the high pitched conscience on the final track “SUN”. This project solidifies JUNE! as a rising force in the underground and shows his ever changing skillset as an MC. We’re glued to what he has in the works next.

THE LORDS OF SOUNDS AND LESSER THINGS - mynameisntjmack

DMV artist mynameisntjmack returns with his follow-up project THE LORDS OF SOUNDS AND LESSER THINGS distributed by Genius distro.

DMV artist mynameisntjmack returns with his follow-up project THE LORDS OF SOUNDS AND LESSER THINGS distributed by Genius distro. When it comes down to it, mynameisntjmack is the definition of trusting the process and building genuine relationships beyond the music. Mynameisntjmack was one of the first few artists we interviewed over here at tooguud and it's amazing to see how far he’s come within two years. His passion and drive to pave out his placement in music have been evident since day one. Beyond all the small life setbacks and re-routing, he’s always managed to continue working towards his manifest destiny.

We are experiencing mynameisntjmack at one of his highest levels of creativity and comfortability going against the popular sound. Executive produced by his longtime collaborator and friend John Whemeyer, the wide range of sound elements, opens the field for mynameisntjmack to express without restrictions.

On “TUCKER,” he talks about his current state of mind and finds appreciation in how things ultimately work in his favor. The hook is very catchy and the soulful harmonies smothered in the background are soothing. His pacing and tonality is compelling, making it easy to digest his message.

On “NODEVELOPMENT” featuring MARCO PLUS; mynameisntjmack confidence bleeds through the writing and cadence is flawless. He’s coming into his own and glides with care over the polished lo-fi production provided by lim0. MARCO PLUS’s delivery is sharp and his use of imagery makes it allows audiences to paint pictures behind his words.

“THEMOONLANDINGWASFAKE” shows mynameisntjmack disbelief towards his new sense of notoriety. He reflects on his friends passing him by and dealing with the urge of trying to catch up with them. The feature by KADOLEAF is grounding and meshes well with mynameisntjmack metaphoric delivery.

The jazz sample on “DOVE$BLEED” is enchanting and provides the perfect atmosphere for him to unpack his current internal battles.

“Have you ever seen doves cry?”

The beauty in this question connects directly to the messaging of the project. Doves don’t cry but it's the loud noise of pain that’s released from them that allows humans to imagine their deep sorrow. It's the same with mynameisntjmack, he has a graceful way of showing pain without making listeners feel bad for him. He never shows too much, while at the same time not showing too little.

Production credits are held by aebeats, Stoicbeats, lim0, 8een, Charliep, drachemusic, Gutty, and Johan Lenox. Resting at a duration of 25 minutes, the project also includes stunning features from Dre Wave$ and Tommy Richman. Before the release of his project, mynameisntjmack released a single with Tommy Richman called “BUNKER/PREROLL,” which had a great buzz on TikTok and flooded the music blogs. mynameisntjmack is here and keeping the pressure!

The writing is metaphorical and filled with similes that demonstrate her infatuation with her lover. The harmonies at the end resemble the feeling of butterflies in your stomach, which we thought was pretty dope. This song was fully written and produced by Offline in her bedroom. Minneapolis-based musician Ricki Monique dropped her debut EP Good Seeds. On her debut EP, Monique is honest and not vain when it comes to providing details about her upbringing and life experiences. Her words are vivid but poetic. With confidence, well-tuned cadences, and forthright writing ; Ricki Monique displays “what it feels like to have a fuckin dream.”

The production Monique explores her lyricism on are refined nostalgic melodies with goey-like bass textures sprinkled around. It’s easy to cling on and become submerged by the neo-soul heavy-based production that’ll remind you of the Soulquarians’ days. On “RUBY,” Monique tells a story about a woman’s acceptance of her inner growth and the childhood lessons she had to unlearn. The string arrangements under Monique’s voice experimentations bring out the purity in her writing. The cut short guitar riffs embrace the slight textures of Roy Ayers's “Sunshine.”

”Look up, momma said keep your chin up.” At times, throughout the 6-track body of art, Monique is giving herself a pep talk as she continues to embark on her dreams. “CEREAL” featuring MMYYKK is the heart and soul of the EP. The beat switch was smooth and displays her ability to change creative directions with ease. She doesn’t miss a beat on “FTG” and keeps up with the upbeat production.

Before dropping her latest EP, Monique released two singles, “IMMORTAL” being one of them. Ricki Monique is more than a “female rapper;” I truly think she’s going to a beautiful slow-burning career and music that’ll be deemed timeless.

His voice inflections and tonality stick out unequivocally, displaying his growth as a performer. “mars” demonstrates Redveil’s growth as a rapper and producer; clashing lofi samples and jazz-infused elements that bring forward pioneering synth sounds from the 80s.

On “shoulder” featuring Mekdelawit & Renaissance Mic, Veil raps about his fleeting youth and having to step into adulthood. Veil’s audience expands over all ages because of his fluent ear for soul samples and youthful approach to trap drum arrangements. Sam Truth's vocals on “better” give Veil the space to reflect on triumphs and strength his optimism for the future.

His stanzas are short but jammed with preciseness; leaving no room for error. His growth feels like a slow burn and confidently takes the sonic risk to present his artistry at its purest. LA-based collective grouptherapy. are back with this latest project Truth Be Told. Their growth as musicians continues to expand and demonstrate their unique approach toward genre-less music. Within 22-minutes, Jadagrace, SWIM, and TJOnline find new ways to complement each other while maintaining their own creative merits on this latest sonic offering.

The vibrant synth chords on “Tangerine” are mesmerizing and the melodies are infectious. “Mistake” feels like the group at its purest and “Ah Choo” highlights each member's charisma. The switch up on “Truth Be Told” was a pleasant surprise and the dense 808s were utopian.

While the tracks where all the members are exchanging their creative realms are filled with eccentric moments, the solo songs are the ones that stand out the most for us. On “Pink Papers,” Jadagrace holds no punches; jumping in and out of different rhyme schemes, making it difficult for listeners to sleep on her delivery and pen. “Risky” with SWIM shifts gears and provides a refreshed Cool Kids-ish sound. The drums and SWIM’s compelling cadence makes perfect matrimony. He displays his confidence as a lyricist and doesn’t become a victim of the vibrant production.

The production by Dee Lilly is the heart and soul of this sonic offering. His influences may be easy to point out but he finds a way to make the production personable and forward-thinking.

grouptherapy.’s latest body of work displays their growth as musicians and their ability to transcend traditional soundscapes.

Bairi is no longer holding her tongue and is confidently stepping into the light she deems for herself. On this track, Bairi’s cadence builds momentum as the soothing background vocals make her delivery digestible for the naysayers. The production by Park and 48thST shines a light that helps Bairi find the rhythm with a natural bounce, but a reviving approach for modern R&B. Last year, she released two singles “Free” and “Paraíso”; and recently was featured on Deante’ Hitchcock's new album. We’re excited to see what she has planned for the rest of the year!

Sectiontoo - “Come See Me Tonight”

Queens native Sectiontoo returns with his latest single “Come See Me Tonight” alongside long-time collaborator identite crisis. There’s something unorthodox but nostalgic about this song that’ll make you call an old crush and attempt to go down memory lane despite the heartache. Sectiontoo takes heed to incorporate traditional R&B elements with a modern approach. The way his vocals transform throughout the song is captivating. Section’s pen is heartfelt and driven by muses that once brought comfort. The cloudy guitar solo at the end is one of the many production highlights of the song. The song was released through his label Viper Records. We’re looking forward to seeing what else he has planned for the year.

Ricky Mapes - “BIG MAPES”

Bronx rapper Ricky Mapes returns with his latest single “BIG MAPLES'' produced by Cuffedgod. Mapes’ pacing and tonality fits perfectly over the sample-based track. His storytelling is descriptive and allows listeners to have a vivid image of the picture his words are painting. On this song, Mapes juggles his thought process and has epiphanies on different situations that could’ve derailed his divine path. Mapes's unique perspective and complex word arrangements show off  his immense talent as an artist. Earlier this year, he released three singles, “SPEAKEASY,” “GINGERBREAD,” and “FENTY;” all being perfect examples of his creative ability and growth as an emerging artist.

Chicago-based duo Burner Phone makes their debut with “no service.” The duo, comprised of producer Issac and rapper Elijah, pull out the best from one another creatively and it shows on their debut offering. The sample choices by Issac are enriched by the rhyme schemes performed by Elijah.

“CONFESSIONS” is one of the stand-out tracks from the project. Issac’s drums hit to the core, providing a space for Elijah to unpack his consciousness poetically. “THE REAL ME '' feels like a victory lap, the blending and vocal experimentation set the scene for success. If you’re into slums sounds and samples only found at garage sales, this is the tape for you! These two crafted an art piece based on their appreciation of finding beauty in obscurity.

Alabama-based artist Muchi drops his fully produced debut EP EGO<CONFIDENCE. The production is extremely personal and aligns and compliments Muchi's delivery. It’s hard to put a finger on the core inspiration of the project since he bounces around different sounds and aesthetics while staying in a precise realm. “EGO’S VILLAIN” truly displays Muchi’s unique artistry and ability to tamper with melodies, using his voice as an instrument.

The last track “PATHETIC” is the highlight of the EP. The string arrangements at the end are enchanting and the drums that play hide and seek throughout the song surge alongside Muchi’s self-reliant cadence. The production has a nice balance between whimsical and abrasive. You can hear influences from JPEGMAFIA and Tyler The Creator that calmly seep through with admiration. Before his EP release, Muchi has released many singles that emphasize his creative approach and detailing. Looking forward to seeing what else he has planned for the future!

To a Dark Boy - Wakai

Baton Rouge, Louisiana native Wakai returns with his latest project To a Dark Boy. Shy of 33-minutes, Wakai demonstrates a picturesque lyricism, admiration for camouflage soul samples, and earnest connection with jazz.

Baton Rouge, Louisiana native Wakai returns with his latest project To a Dark Boy. Just shy of 33-minutes, Wakai demonstrates a picturesque lyricism, admiration for camouflage soul samples, and an earnest connection with jazz. The project is intentionally subdued. The intricate storytelling by Wakai provides a deeper understanding of his upbringing and the self-proclaimed triumphs it took for him to get where he’s at today. At times, his cadences feel like a bedtime story or even a personal spoken-word piece that took years of refinement before being pressed into the audience's ears. He has a way of using his voice as a sonic component to highlight the low frequencies that linger throughout the project.

Before the big release, he dropped two singles, “Starter Jacket” with Emmavie and “When There Was No Sun” with Mick Jenkins, which seamlessly shows his love for working with artists that compliment his sound and share the same passion for detail

His writing style is unfeigned. ”Evening Sun” embodies heartfelt confusion. Wakai describes the challenge of deciphering love vs lust; real vs fantasy. The sample vocal arrangements mesh well with the content of the song, which shows off Wakai’s seasoned ear for production and use of vocal instrumentation to assist with his storytelling.

The smothered jazz essentials and Wakai’s immersive contemporary delivery feels free form. At times, this album feels like a lo-fi version of To Pimp a Butterfly. Perfect storytelling with introspective rhyme schemes that create its own pockets. Even the production tells a story and that’s thanks to the power of samples. The album feels reminiscent of the past through the crackling sample textures.

“Smile 4 Us” is our standout track from the body of work. I’m a huge fan of the reimagined “Diana in the Autumn Wind '' sample that has been infamously used by Slum Village and other artists such as Chance the Rapper. But for this track, it’s chopped up in a refreshing way that I doubt the naked ear could pick up on it. Your ear must be seasoned, which is evident in the production Wakai decides to rap on. The soothing vocals by Kay Lashea set the tone for Wakai to get into his bag.

The use of free-form writing styles, niche soul samples, and jazz-infused components portrays a deconstructed symphony for Wakai’s collection of short stories. Production credits are held by wavworld, Kirti Pandey, Noa Jamir, Nocvhll, Versus Beats, and Wakai himself. If you’re into enriched storytelling, muffled 808s over-saturated samples, and impressive rhyme schemes, give “To a Dark Boy” a listen. Last year, Wakai released “Away Game, Vol. 2,” and this new project is a great addition to his catalog.

The DMV sound is always evolving but stays true to its core. 24-year-old PG County native Kinrose delivers his debut EP Easygrowing, providing a much needed soundtrack as we enter into springtime. You feel a sense of blossoming as Kinrose paints a vivid depiction of growth and acceptance through his passionate melodies and reflection.

Kinrose’s voice inflections sharpen his storytelling skills. Even with his laid back approach, listeners are given the chance to enter into his safe space of self reflection. On “aloof on a roof,” Kinrose reflects on being a black college student and learning how to maneuver in a mostly white environment… finding the balance between having fun, while not becoming a victim to those moments of bliss. His crooning on “aloof on a roof” is soothing, but telling within itself. You can feel his frustrations toward always having to be on his p’s and q’s, while his peers are given the grace to be easy going due to the benefits of classism.

The 5-track EP centers around growth and exhibits Kinrose’s coolheadeedness. He finds melodies that compliment his pacing and messaging. On “cloudy air” Kinrose expresses his reasons for isolation - he’s focused on obtaining his idea of success. The project is smothered in hope and optimism, despite the challenges he has to overcome.  He understands he has to find peace and grace, and is willing to do the work.

Mamadou. - “Tread Slowly.”

With his new Soundcloud partnership, we’re excited to see what’s to come next!

Chanel Loren - “Playlist”

South East London native Chanel Loren makes her single debut with “Playlist.” Loren’s voice is velvety over the soothing and glitchy production. There’s something distinct but evocative that’s translated through Loren’s vocal arrangements that’ll induce listeners into waking down memory lane. Loren’s approach to blending garage with R&B music is refreshing and we’re looking forward to how she’ll transcend the genre-bending era.

KADOLEAF - “222”

VA native KADOLEAF recently dropped his latest offering “222.” The tempo of this song meshes well with KADOLEAF’s energized cadences and delineated harmonies. He finds the perfect balance between alternative, pop, and R&B as he sings about the word love losing its meaning. Earlier this year, KADOLEAF dropped a two-pack single and is expected to drop some more singles as 2022 plays out.

Sækyi , Tommy Richman & Rooftop Collective - “Taking Me Back For The Night”

VA natives Sækyi & Tommy Richman join forces on their latest genre-bending collaborative single “Taking Me Back For The Night.” This song sets the perfect soundtrack as the seasons begin to transition from winter to spring. The production meshes well with their cadences and impressionistic execution. Tommy’s ululating vocal arrangements create a guided path for listeners to become submerged by Sækyi astute but artful delivery. The choice of words used by both artist are precise and descriptive in feeling. In addition, the track was produced by Tommy Richman. Last year, Sækyi released his debut EP Sunset Demo’s and is slated to drop his follow-up project sometime this year. Since the new year kicked off, Richman has dropped a couple of singles and was expecting to hear even more music from him as the year plays out.

Kinrose - “profile”

DMV-based artist Kinrose returns with his latest single “profile.” Kinrose’s tonality and pacing set the tone and play as an additional instrument to the production by Alanfor. This song has a consistent bounce and is smothered in witty lines and abstractive references. Last year, Kinrose released Chopped, a short EP that serves as an appetizer to his full course. His follow-up is slated to drop in a couple of weeks and we’re excited about some new music.

T H R O N E & Kingjp - “V for Vanity”

North Carolina-based duo T H R O N E recently dropped their debut project Lionfish, a refreshing approach to neo-jazz and poetic Melodie’s that strikes to the core. This project feels free form and sincere. “V for Vanity” being one of the standout tracks truly tells a story of hope and the revelation of disillusion. Expecting something to be better than what’s reality and finding the grace within it.

There’s something nostalgic about this track; It could be YVHIKV’s infectious vocal contributions or the spoken word delivery by Hayatheus. Regardless, their words paint a picture so vividly. The project features Fly Anakin, Suave Dubois, Snick Foley, Domain Brown, and Jules filmhouse. Find some time and give this project a thorough listen!

A Conversation w/ lamuse

New York rapper lamuse dropped her latest project Automatic Shutdown as a sonic depiction of growing pains and acceptance. Throughout this nine-track body of work, lamuse reflects on past relationships and previous thought processes which made her surrounded emotions to protect her peace.

Last month, New York rapper lamuse dropped her latest project Automatic Shutdown as a sonic depiction of growing pains and acceptance. Throughout this nine-track body of work, lamuse reflects on past relationships and previous thought processes which made her surrounded emotions to protect her peace. Every track feels like a personal journal entry and lamuse does not shy away from being vulnerable.

On “Take Less,” she raps about wishing the woman of her past didn’t put up with her childish ways. Lamuse’s choice of words is precise and adds to the story. The emotion that lies beneath “I’m Crying” comes second to none; it feels like a harmonized spoken word piece.

“Reddit” featuring Dachelle is one of the many stand-out tracks on the project. Lamuse’s cadence meshed with Dachelle’s gentle vocal arrangements. Rounding off at 20 minutes, Automatic Shutdown would make listeners understand yesterday is not tomorrow and it takes effort for true peace.

Our conversation, lightly edited for content and clarity, follows below.

All right, so automatic shutdown. What does that mean to you?

Automatic shutdown is kind of like my natural state. When I feel like people are trying to make an emotional connection with me, I automatically shut down. Like, I've had a long track record of just being detached from people on an emotional level. So automatic shut down is that defense mechanism that we enact when we feel like danger is near.

How have those feelings translated into your music for this project?

On this project, it was the opposite; I think I was reflecting on those emotions of detached. I’m at a point in life where I'm beyond shutting down; It’s not normal for me to shut down automatically and doing so blocks off connections that other people may want to build with me. I believe those feelings translated through reflection…reflection on that chapter in my life.

Going off of reflection, what was the inspiration for “Take Less”?

When thinking back on some of the women I’ve dealt with in my past, I feel like they gave me a lot and also feel like, “damn bitch, how stupid can you be?” (chuckles). I felt like the woman of my past would try to give a lot and force something that's not there. At times, they would force monogamy or exclusivity onto me knowing that I was not ready for that and I would tell them.

Have those reflections in your music ever come back to bite you?

Honestly, back then, no matter the content I was speaking on, the girls would still be happy and excited that its a song about them. (Chuckles) and at that time, I was doggin’ them on tracks. Now, I’m older and in a committed relationship, my music is no longer dedicated to one woman, it’s a collection of it all. I feel like it’s pretty great to be someone’s muse.

How did you approach your music differently this time around?

I think on previous projects, I focused a little bit too much on the craft. Make sure the words and the rhymes are all going together; that the writing is beautiful. But this time around, I also made sure that I stayed true to the story.  Like on “I’m Crying,” every line is factual.

All of the music was created at my home studio, which was also different because I usually work in collaborative environments. It was more solo, which I felt was necessary because this project was more personal and emotionally felt.  Every song and every beat aligned with those experiences I’m reflecting on Automatic Shutdown.

Can you describe the emotions behind “I'm Great”?

I was having a really shitty day. Okay. Was hysterically crying and honestly felt a little suicidal.  Didn't have a therapist at that time.  It came to a point where I called my mom because I was scared that I was really going to hurt myself. After that day, my mom called me every day. A week after that, we found a therapist for me. And that kind of, like, motivated me to seek medical help for whatever's going on in here. Funny story, my therapist broke up with me a few weeks ago, but that’s a whole nother story.

I think it's cool that you ended the tape off with “I'm Great,” because I feel like throughout the project, you're talking about those emotions and trying to find balance within it and at the end of it all, you do. Was that transition of emotions and songs intentional?

That was 100% intentional. I felt everything that came before “I’m Great” was very covert and very much emotionless. But then you have those songs like “I’m Crying” where I’m tiptoeing around my awareness that, yeah, I could be an awful person sometimes, I see it. Then “Comfort” is like sadness but then “I’m Great” ties everything together… embracing those emotions and now that I’ve had those experiences I could attach myself emotionally with someone.

“Crowded Lottery Ticket” being a bit more upbeat than the other tracks, would you consider that a distraction for your audience while you’re dancing through the pain?

Honestly, I could see that... Like, imagine being at a party and everyone is dancing, having a good time but still carrying their own baggage. No one knows what you’re truly going through and believes everything is well based on the perception you present. But on the other side, I saw it as, a woman in my past would try to change me and aye, that’s like winning a lottery ticket (laughs.)

How was it working on “Retro 3” with yeahCaleb?

Working on that song was fun, it was from one of the sessions with my collective thebaremax. We ended up not putting it on our last project, SMUDGE and I felt it was such a good track and connected well with my story for automatic shutdown.

What are your favorite Jordans?

Gotta be the ones, highs, and lows.

What's next?

Singles and hopefully another thebaremax album.

What is one thing you want your audience to get out of listening to this project?

That I'm not an asshole but I am an asshole.

What were the last three albums you listened to?

The Essentials of Michael Jackson

Coloring Book by Chance the Rapper

Sorry 4 The Wait by Lil Wayne

mynameisntjmack & Tommy Richman - “BUNKER/PREROLL”

Virginia natives mynameisntjmack & Tommy Richman join forces on their latest single “BUNKER/PREROLL.” This collaboration feels like two worlds colliding and realizing their abstract creative approach makes perfect matrimony. This song narrates those emotions of feeling lonely, despite being in a room full of people. On this track, mynameisntjmack enhances his delivery and hones in on his sharp expressions of life through witty imagery. His tonality illustrates an image of bliss towards his discomforts. Richman provides the right amount of energy to continue going against the grain and embracing those fears of feeling like an outcast. The hook texture is mesmerizing and the Bay Area-ish production is quintessential. The track was produced by long-time collaborator John Wehmeyer & Myles Sweeney. Last year, both mynameisntjmack & Tommy Richman released a bunch of singles and hopefully building up momentum for their next project. Keep your eyes and ears pierced!

Maryland native singer-songwriter Dana McCoy returns with her latest single “Garage Sale.” Her voice is gentle ignites tranquility despite the difficult transition of moving on from someone you once loved. As he raps about needing space, he welcomes listeners into his perspective towards reality and how it’s weighing on him despite his ability to smile through the pain. The song finds a sincere balance between lo-fi and slum hip hop. Last year, Diz released a project called ALL IN DUE TIME and the year before that Black Water. Our fingers are crossed for a 2022 project!

Xav the Ripper - “No Cry”

Chicago-based rapper & producer Xav the Ripper dropped his latest single “No Cry.”

With the use of underground drum patterns and precise word choice, Xav explains his current state of mind and triumphs of navigating through the music industry. Xav describes the track as being a “beacon of hope to those who feel unheard.” The sample-based track blends well with Xav’s bright inflections and delivery. Last year August, he dropped a project titled Once It’s Over and this year he’s getting his footing down for what’s to come next.
