THE GUUDS w/ mynameisntjmack, julzzz, Donnie Killjoy, Monroe Jordan, Haich Ber Na, & J $ENSEI,

mynameisntjmack - “NEWBRASSKNUCKLES”

VA native mynameisntjmack returns with his follow-up single “NEWBRASSKNUCKLES,” a month away from his next project The Lord Of Sounds And Lesser Things that’s slated to drop next May. On his latest single, mynameisntjmack discusses avoiding woman who only sees a dollar sign and the vices he uses to protect his solace. His cadence and pacing make listeners indulge in his words and emotions. Whenever he’s on a track, expect therapeutic metaphors that provide a glimpse of his consciousness. The production he chose to rap on has a pure way of paying homage to Houston and nostalgic LA textures, while still providing a refreshing sound. His woozy-like tonality is distinct from the piano-led production. Earlier this year, mynameisntjmack dropped a song with emerging VA pop-punk artist Tommy Richman and recently joined the Genius team. We’re excited for his project that drops next May!

julzzz - “Pink Plant”

The Canada-based singer recently dropped her latest contemporary jazz single “Pink Plant.” julzzz vocals are soulful and soothing. Her ethereal pacing alongside the unorthodox drum patterns is entrancing. The production provides a dreamy soundscape that still feels groovy. Julzzz’s angelic rasp voice distributes another texture for the production, giving it a full sonic balance. This song feels like it was gently placed together with every element serving a purpose. Last year October, Julzzz released her debut single “Indecisive.” Our ears are glued to what she has planned next.

Donnie KillJoy - “Bed Stuy”

VA artist Donnie Killjoy returns with his latest alternative single “Bed Stuy.” On his latest single, Killjoy embodies free-living and allowing blissful moments to take lead in his relationships. The soft electric piano riffs under Killjoy's heavy reverb vocal layering saturate his minimalist writing style. The hyper punk textures are memorable. His writing is pure and cuts through vigorously. The repetitiveness throughout the song feels like a mantra for letting go of those worries while dating. Early this year, Killjoy released “Cream Soda” and we’re excited to hear what else he has in the works for 2022.

Monroe Jordan - “nykes”

OH-based singer drops his latest offering “nykes” as the hollowness of the drums allows Jordan’s vocals to carry the weight of revelation. Sneaker culture has always been a staple in urban communities and often at times, mistakenly used to define one’s success. On “nykes,” Jordan reflects on his connection to Nikes through the use of imagery, ethereal vocal orchestration, and steadiness. His harmonies are mesmerizing, held loosely against the unhurried guitar strings. The drum arrangements blend well with Jordan’s pacing; allowing those moments of airiness to provide depth to Jordan’s sonic offering. He finds comfort in his Nikes because it provides him the mobility to escape from realism. Jordan released “seasonal depression” alongside two other singles last year and was looking forward to seeing what he has planned this year.

Haich Ber Na - “Now We’re Strangers”

London-based artist Haich Ber Na returns with their latest single “Now We’re Strangers.” This song feels euphoric and translucent in emotion. On their latest sonic offering, the London native expresses their grievances with the illusion of time and the effects it holds on past relationships. Things are not the same and vibing out through acceptance is the only cure. The vocal harmonies are dreamy and the gentle kicks over the rugged guitar riffs are encapsulating. There are so many layers, the production explores various genre essentials with care and forward-thinking. Haich Ber Na does not shy away from experimenting with their voices, which is refreshing and provides another sound element to their unpolished psychedelic sonic exhibit. Last year, Haich Ber Na released From Then ‘til Now, which displayed this wide musical palate and ability to blend electronic and R&B elements. We’re excited to hear what they have planned next.

J $ENSEI - “SLIGHTLY INSANE”

Atlanta GA native J $ENSEI makes his return with his new hyper punk, pop-infused single “SLIGHTLY INSANE.” The beautiful falsettos supported by the hyper punk essential sets a tone for $ENSEI’s creative contribution to the evolving sound of genre-blending. On this song, he expresses his attraction to women who drive him crazy but appreciate them for his muses. The vibrant production aligns with $ENSEI sonic spiraling. Last year, $ENSEI released his debut EP It’s Bc Ur an Aries which had a great balance of pop, Hip-hop, and alternative R&B. Our eyes are glued.
